Before art academy, I studied political geography. I’ve always been interested in the relationship between spatial order and power, especially subtle forms of power; how ordering, organizing, categorizing and managing the world around us is always an excercise of power and control.

I’m fascinated by this process of establishing order through the creation of (imagined) boundaries between people and things. What are these borders made of? What if they were in a different place? What (who) exists at the margins of categories?

Who belongs and who doesn’t?

In my work I explore social separations, the overlap between them, and especially the space in between. I like to work spatially and use physical borders in space as a metaphor for abstract social divisions.

When I say I, I mean we. The boundaries between me and others are always open, or at least porous and unstable.

Without the other it doesn’t work, fortunately.
